Why gemologist?

About me

My practice, experience and my values

It is first of all a passion that came true after spending many years in the financial sector, by the way linked to the diamond industry. However since young, I was used to collect minerals and  to dig gems. After having finally bought an Alexandrite over the holidays, a jeweler sold it to me as natural. I wasn't conviced, despite certificate and to be sure I've decided to acquire myself the requested knowledge to avoid any misleading. I was looking for the most valuable accreditation in the industry and the Gemological Institute of America was my choice. I've made the lab classes in Carlsbad, Birmingham and Bangkok and I became GIA graduated gemologist after my studies.

The result is that the Alexandrite was a lab-grown one, so far away from the dust of the mine where I used to collect my gemstones. I'm very concerned about the ethical approach and the practice of the gemstone industry. Education is part of it at all levels, so I dedicate myself for it. Inclusions are for me fascinating added values who give character to the gemstones. I can see them with the microscope and catch the amazing pictures with my camera, it is the most beautiful reward of my wonderful job.

As a women, I have always defended not being judged solely on physical criteria but also on the inner beauty and the real soul and that's what I do for the gemstones.  I look further and inside to understand them with respect and humility, in return they tell you so much about themselves.

Make them sparkling is the job of the lapidary and mine as gemologist is to light up the inner truth of the gems and to avoid to be deluded.                                                            Suzanne Rollet
